Food and beverage inspection applications

Vision

Sorting and grading

LED lighting and lasers are used to measure size and shape, grade quality, detect defects, confirm cooking and check topping distribution in raw produce, processed food and packaged fresh food. Multispectral and hyperspectral LED lighting helps sort fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood by size, ripeness, colour and composition, and measures fat content and marbling in meat. Laser line modules support high-speed optical sorting and grading.

Detection

Foreign body and contamination detection

UV fluorescence shows surface contamination that white light misses, including lubricants, cleaning agents, adhesives and biological residues. SWIR lighting detects glass fragments, bone, metal and packaging debris. LED lighting also finds insects in produce and parasites in fish before packing.

Vision

Label and date code inspection

Verify label presence, position, print quality, barcode readability and date codes inline at production speed. Exaktera LED lighting provides the geometry and spectral output needed for consistent contrast across label materials, print types and container surfaces, from glass and PET to foil and card.

Measurement

Fill level and volume verification

Non-contact fill level measurement for bottles, jars, pouches and cans. Laser line or LED backlight measurement confirms fill is within tolerance on every unit, without contact or stopping the line. Underfill and overfill reject signals connect directly to line control.

Non-contactInline
Integrity

Packaging seal and integrity

Verify heat seal integrity, cap placement and alignment, tamper evidence and closures inline, and detect cracks and chips in glass containers. Lighting geometry matters: a seal defect that cannot be seen under diffuse light shows up clearly under directional or coaxial LED. Exaktera lighting can be configured for the specific seal type and container shape.

Guidance

Tray and portion guidance

Exaktera laser projectors guide operators or automated systems through tray filling and portioning, projecting the portion boundary or placement zone directly onto the product or tray. They can also project cutting lines, so vegetables, cheese or meat are sliced with millimetre precision and less waste. Portion accuracy improves without a camera-based closed-loop system.

LED illumination

LED for every inspection environment.

Exaktera LED lighting covers the full range of food and beverage inspection needs: UV for contamination and fluorescence detection, high-intensity white for label and surface inspection, near-infrared or SWIR for fill level through opaque containers, and coaxial for seal and closure inspection.

IP69K-rated housings withstand high-pressure hot washdown, caustic cleaning agents and steam without any loss of optical output. Stainless steel Exaktera enclosures with hygienic design protect cameras and lasers in the same conditions.

Laser modules and projectors

Lines for measurement, projection for guidance.

Laser line modules provide the structured light for high-speed sorting, grading and fill level measurement. Laser projectors place portion zones and cutting lines directly on the product, so operators work faster and waste less.

Hygienic enclosures

Machine Vision that survive the cleaning cycle.

Stainless steel Exaktera enclosures with hygienic design protect cameras, lenses and lasers in the same wash-down conditions as the lighting. Each enclosure is specified around the equipment it holds, and custom configurations are available.
