Place it precisely. Measure it reliably.
Exaktera positioning lasers guide material placement from the building drum to the tire press, while machine vision lasers give inspection systems the clean, uniform lines they need to measure every tire.
The challenge
Tire manufacturing combines strict quality and safety requirements with complex processes that leave little room for error. Every misplaced layer or undetected splice defect adds scrap and rework, while pressure to automate keeps growing and lines must adapt to new materials and constantly changing tire sizes. Meeting those demands starts with light you can rely on, whether it’s guiding an operator’s hand or feeding data to a camera.
Reference lines that stand out on black rubber.
Exaktera positioning lasers project clearly visible reference lines and cross marks at every stage of tire production. On the building drum, multiple green laser lines guide each rubber layer into exact position, staying sharp and visible on black rubber. At the press, a bright cross mark helps operators place green tires accurately, while in retreading the laser keeps the new tread aligned with the casing.

Accurate data, shift after shift.
Laser profiling measures tread depth and dimensional accuracy during production, while laser lines monitor the width and edges of rubber tracks so errors are corrected before they reach the next process step. Line uniformity, straightness and thermal stability are critical here, because any unevenness in the laser line reduces the accuracy of the whole system. For high ambient light or extreme temperatures, digital laser modules with built-in thermal management keep output stable.
Catch defects before they leave the line.
Working with cameras and image processing, Exaktera machine vision lasers reveal what the naked eye misses. Their straight, uniformly bright lines expose height deviations, bulges and other geometry defects. On splices, the lines stay visible on dark rubber regardless of contrast, showing open areas, overlaps and irregularities early. The same lasers support code reading, so sidewall markings such as the DOT code are captured reliably for full traceability. Exaktera LED lighting complements laser-based inspection where even, diffuse illumination improves contrast, such as on molded sidewall markings.
