Tailored Solutions

When the catalog does not have what you need. Work with Exaktera for custom LED modules, laser modules, enclosures and integrated systems engineered for your specific application.

Custom engineering

Most applications are solved by selecting the right standard product. Some are not. The wavelength combination you need does not exist in a standard illuminator. Your form factor rules out every catalog enclosure. Your OEM integration requires a laser module with a non-standard output, drive electronics, or mechanical interface. These are the applications Exaktera’s tailored solutions service is built for.

Custom LED illumination

When a standard ring light, bar light, line light, or area light won’t work in your application, our three lighting brands, Advanced Illumination, LUMIMAX, and ProPhotonix, can engineer a solution to your exact output, geometry, and mechanical requirements. With the combined expertise of all three in-house engineering teams, you have more ways to solve your application challenge.

We support the full process under one roof, from wavelength selection, drive electronics, and optics through to thermal design, packaging, and a manufactured part. Every project starts with your requirements and develops from there.

Custom designs are available from low volumes for instruments through to production volumes for platforms.

Custom laser modules

When a standard laser module won’t meet your application’s needs, our two laser brands, ProPhotonix and Z-LASER, can engineer a solution to your exact wavelength, power, beam profile, and mechanical requirements. With the combined expertise of both in house, you have more ways to solve your application challenge.

We support the full process under one roof, from laser diode and wavelength selection, drive electronics, and beam-shaping optics through to thermal design, packaging, and a manufactured part. Every project starts with your optical requirement and works back from there.

Our capabilities include line, dot, cross, and structured light patterns for machine vision and industrial OEMs, with custom designs available from low volumes for instruments through to production volumes for platforms.

autoVimation

Custom enclosures

autoVimation designs custom protective assemblies for cameras, lasers, and LED lighting, built to handle wash-down environments, chemical exposure, extreme temperatures, and non-standard mounting requirements. A custom enclosure from autoVimation means the vision system can be deployed where a standard housing would fail or simply does not exist in the right form factor.

The starting point is the vision system specification: camera body dimensions, lens working distance, lighting geometry, and the environmental demands of the installation. The output is an enclosure designed to those requirements, with the IP rating and thermal performance verified for the specified conditions.

System integration

For applications that require illumination, optics, camera and enclosure to be specified and integrated as a single engineered system rather than individual components, Exaktera works at the system level from application brief through feasibility, component selection, prototype and field deployment.

System-level projects suit applications where the performance outcome matters more than individual component selection: where the inspection result, not the illuminator specification, is what the customer buys. The deliverable is a fielded, qualified vision system.

How the custom process works

What information do you need to start a feasibility study?

The optical requirement is the starting point: what wavelength, beam geometry, intensity or power does the application demand, and why does the standard product not meet it? Beyond that, the mechanical envelope, environmental conditions, volume range and target cost all shape which custom route is appropriate. A brief description of the application is enough to open the conversation.

How long does a custom design take?

A custom design built within an existing product platform, such as a non-standard wavelength or a modified form factor, typically takes 4–8 weeks from specification sign-off to first sample. A fully bespoke design with new drive electronics or mechanical structure takes longer; feasibility assessment will identify which category a requirement falls into before any commitment is made.

What is the minimum order quantity for a custom design?

The threshold depends on the design complexity and the manufacturing partner. Many custom routes are available from 50 units, with NRE (non-recurring engineering) charges covering tooling and qualification work that amortises across the production run. For genuine instrument-level volumes — 5–20 units per year — a semi-custom approach (selecting from a wider option set than the standard catalogue) is often the most cost-effective path.

Start with a feasibility study.

Tell us the application requirement — optical, mechanical, environmental, throughput — and we’ll assess whether a standard product can be adapted or whether a custom design is the right path.
